Summary of Referral Reports on Counsel Conduct 2020-2021

​​The following summary of referrals of alleged breaches of professional conduct has been published in accordance with the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada's (IRB) Policy on Disclosing Information Regarding the Conduct of Authorized Representatives to Regulatory Bodies and associated procedures.

In 2020-21 there were a total of 10 alleged breaches of professional conduct by counsel reported at the IRB: 9 related to lawyers or individuals claiming membership in a provincial bar association, and 1 related to a regulated Canadian immigration consultant. Eight of the alleged breaches involved counsel in the Eastern region, one in the Central region, and one in the Western region.

Of these 10 alleged breaches, 4 were referred to the appropriate regulator: t​he College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants​ or the responsible law society. The remaining 6 alleged breaches were not referred to a regulator however the IRB informally addressed one of these matters arising in the Eastern region through communication with counsel.​
